Community Field hosted a real pitchers' duel.

The Cedar Rapids Haymakers defeated the Ames Sod Poodles, 2-1, in Midwest League action at Community Field. Cedar Rapids pitcher J.R. Mata had a standout performance. Emilio Rubio recorded his 5th save for Cedar Rapids.

Gerardo González came through with a big-time hit for Cedar Rapids. The first baseman smacked a solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 2-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"We did just enough to win," González said.

Cedar Rapids, at 16-47, occupies last place in the Midwest League Western Division.
