Peoria Chiefs starter Raymond May was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Ames Sod Poodles, 5-3. May, the winner, moves to 1-2. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up 3 walks. Joe Lewis got the save, the 1st for him this season.

The Chiefs got an important contribution from center fielder Ashton Tabor, who in the bottom of the first punched a 2-0 sinker into right for a 2-run double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Chiefs ahead, 3-0.

"We're in a funk right now," said Ames skipper Wil Coffey.
