Haymakers Outmuscle Quad Cities, 14-8
|
Quad Cities designated hitter Osvaldo Gaghiardi was sensational. He was 3-4 with 3 singles and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Cedar Rapids beat the River Bandits, 14-8. Cedar Rapids reliever Stu McManus picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Leary Rice was saddled with the loss. Cedar Rapids, with the win, sits at 22-52.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Benito Guillen came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Quad Cities pitcher Leary Rice, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Cedar Rapids on top, 9-8.
"The boys were really swinging the bats today," winning manager Chris Mathias said.
