Cubs Knock Off Wolverines at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark
The South Bend Cubs did just enough to secure a victory over the Flint Wolverines, 4-3, at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Nobody did more than pitcher Juan Taveras. Taveras, now 6-2, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 3 runs. Blake Smith earned save number 17 this season.

South Bend center fielder Bob Rojas contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the second. With two down, he hit a knuckle curve into right field for a 2-run single. It was his 33rd hit of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 2-0.

Rojas attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."

The Cubs saw their record improve to 34-52.
