Haymakers Get 5-4 Win Versus Fort Wayne
|
With catcher Desmond Peterman leading the charge, the Cedar Rapids Haymakers defeated the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 5-4, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Peterman was 2 for 2 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Robert Geoghegan, the winning pitcher, improved to 2-2. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 1 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 3. Earning his 10th save for Cedar Rapids was Gordon Rauth.
Cedar Rapids took a 5-1 lead on Peterman's 3rd home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which he hit off Peyton Grayson in the bottom of the seventh, propelled Cedar Rapids to the win.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Peterman told the Cedar Rapids Daily. "You win just by scoring more runs."
The 8th-place Haymakers are 36-56.
