Liam Brewer led the West Michigan Whitecaps to a nifty 6-5 win over the Ames Sod Poodles. The West Michigan left fielder, who leads the MID with a .665 slugging percentage, was a force of nature. He banged out 3 extra-base hits, including 2 home runs and 1 double. Dan Hughes earned his 25th save, after closing out the game. West Michigan, now 63-30, holds down first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.

West Michigan took the lead, 6-5, on Mike Burton's 7th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Ames pitcher Zach Graham in the bottom of the seventh.

West Michigan manager Dylan Roberts was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard," he said.
