The Ames Sod Poodles picked up a win at Muskies Ballpark, knocking off the Madison Muskies, 5-2. Starting pitcher Kyle Strader played a key role in the triumph. Strader yielded 2 runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 2-12. Romildo Alejo nailed down the save.
Ames needed the clutch hitting of Derry Mellor to notch the win. The third baseman hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Sod Poodles on top, 4-2. For the game, Mellor had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
