Lugnuts Sting Cubs, 6-0
|
South Bend had no answer for Lansing Lugnuts starter Caleb Dobel, who flummoxed Cubs hitters as the Lugnuts cruised to victory, 6-0. Dobel picked up the win for Lansing, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 4 hits. He now sports a record of 4-3. Linden Vaughan closed it out for his 1st save.
The Cubs had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Lugnuts going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old second baseman Stanford Birdwell came to the plate. Birdwell hit a 2-run home run on a 2-1 fastball from South Bend hurler Cooper Kobyletskyi. It was Birdwell's 2nd home run of the year.
"The hot tub feels extra good after a solid win," said Birdwell.
The Lugnuts are now 55-59, while the Cubs fall to 43-71.
