On Road, LumberKings Top Cubs, 5-1
|
Clinton LumberKings starter Walter Burks was on his game, helping his team beat the South Bend Cubs, 5-1. Clinton is now 87-31.
The LumberKings got a big at-bat from center fielder Houston Sampognaro. For the game, Sampognaro went 1 for 3 with a double and 2 walks. In the top of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 21st double of the season gave Clinton a 1-0 lead.
"You score one run, you're not going to win," said South Bend skipper Mickey Smith. "You can have three Koufaxes and three Drysdales, you're still not going to win."
