The South Bend Cubs got a superb performance from pitcher Zach Strott, but the Great Lakes Loons still won the game, 1-0. Strott threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. Patrick Potter picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Zach Strott suffered the loss. Russ Duggins finished to wrap up his 11th save.

Ethan Long took Zach Strott deep with two out in the bottom of the third. On a 1-0 sinker, Long drilled a solo home run to right. It was his 24th home run of the season and put Great Lakes on top, 1-0.

Said losing manager Mickey Smith: "The only way to escape your past is to be better than your past."

The Loons now own a record of 73-49.
