TinCaps Absorb 7-1 Home Loss
|
The Westside Woolly Mammoths topped the Fort Wayne TinCaps, 7-1, with first baseman Darren Cheek playing a big role. Cheek went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 3 for the Woolly Mammoths in the win. Gavin Mendenhall, who went 6.1 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 2 hits, while walking 4 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 9-11. The Woolly Mammoths, at 57-65, sit in 7th place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
Westside used a timely hit from Lincoln Childress to get the win. The designated hitter delivered a bases-clearing triple in the top of the seventh inning to put the Woolly Mammoths on top, 5-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Woolly Mammoths manager Chris Stinnett, "I like our chances."
