Loons designated hitter Zachary Morton left his mark on his team's 5-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs. Morton, who is tied for 7th in the MID in home runs with 20, was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs for Great Lakes in the contest. The Chiefs, now 55-71, have lost 4 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Tanner Boone came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Peoria pitcher Osoro Luis, he hit a 2-1 forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Great Lakes on top, 4-3.
Boone told a Great Lakes Daily News reporter he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
