Peoria Chiefs starter Mel Graffanino turned in a top-notch performance against the South Bend Cubs at Four Winds Field at Coveleski Stadium. The result was a win for the Chiefs, 5-0. At 69-60, the Chiefs claim 5th place in the Midwest League Western Division.

Peoria used a well-timed hit by Israel Talavera to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Chiefs ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 2 at-bats, it was important.

Said losing manager Mickey Smith: "Give the Chiefs credit. They played a better game than we did."
