Cubs Deal Sod Poodles 7-4 Setback
The South Bend Cubs defeated the Ames Sod Poodles, 7-4, in part because of catcher Noah Hawkins. Hawkins went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Cubs. Nathaniel Card earned the win, while 22-year old left-handed pitcher J.J. Porter took the loss for Ames. Felix Bonilla collected his 3rd save.

South Bend used the hitting of Yudiel Espadas to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs on top, 5-3. For the game, Espadas had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Winning is hard sometimes," said Cubs manager Mickey Smith. "This one was nice to get."

At 45-88, the Cubs find themselves in 8th place in the Midwest League Eastern Division.
