LumberKings Score Late, Topple River Bandits, 6-2
|
The Quad Cities River Bandits got a sterling performance from pitcher Roderick Lantto, but the Clinton LumberKings still prevailed, 6-2. Lantto threw 7.0 innings of 1-hit ball. The first-place LumberKings have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Frances Ray came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Quad Cities pitcher José Hernández, he hit a 1-0 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Clinton on top, 4-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Ray told the Clinton Herald. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
