Yankees Bridle Mets, 3-1
|
Riding the 2-hit performance of the 25-year old right fielder Ray Christman, the New York Yankees stopped the New York Mets, 3-1. Cale Wiltsie, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 2 hits. The Yankees, with just their 4th win in 14 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
Christman contributed a big hit, a 2-run double, for New York in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 1-0, Christman took a sinker from Calvet Medrano and stroked the double to left. His 6th double of the season allowed the Yankees to leap in front, 2-1.
Afterward, Yankees manager Nate Williams was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
