Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Augusta GreenJackets were eager to watch Marco Ravasi square off against Hernando Cabrera of the visiting Greensboro Grasshoppers. In the end, the Grasshoppers won the game, 7-2, with Hernando Cabrera leading the way. Cabrera got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 2 over 7.1 innings. He allowed 2 runs.

Greensboro right fielder Ryan Fairgrieve contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to right field for a run-scoring single. It was his 1st hit of the season and put the Grasshoppers ahead, 5-2.

"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Fairgrieve told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
