Braves Pick Up 4-1 Road Win Over Charleston
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Charleston RiverDogs home opener. Mike Peck started for the home team against Ricky Fernández for the Rome Braves. The RiverDogs were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 4-1, Rome. Ricky Fernández, though, was impressive. Fernández got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 3 hits and walked 0 over 6.2 innings. Fernández allowed 1 run. Orson Zimmer recorded his 1st save for Rome.
It could have been a different outcome for Rome, had it not been for Solomon Vitucci, the 23-year old left fielder . Vitucci contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put Rome up, 2-0.
"You score one run, you're not going to win," said Charleston skipper Jim Salyers. "You can have three Koufaxes and three Drysdales, you're still not going to win."
