The Greenville Drive had to overcome a fine effort from Lexington pitcher Aiden Hewitt to grab a narrow 3-2 win at Fluor Field at the West End. Hewitt went 6.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. The winner in relief was Alex Frandsen. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit in 3.2 innings. Greenville goes to 1-1.
Had Kason Nelson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Nelson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Drive.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Nelson said.
