Starting pitcher Mark Parker pitched well enough to help the Greensboro Grasshoppers beat the Lakewood BlueClaws, 6-3. Parker picked up the win for Greensboro, going 8 innings. He gave up 3 runs on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. C.J. Merrick earned the save for Greensboro, his 1st of the year.
The Grasshoppers got a big at-bat from designated hitter Taylor Shepler. For the game, Shepler went 1 for 3 with a home run and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 2nd home run of the season gave Greensboro a 2-1 lead.
"I was able to get good plays made behind me," Parker said. "And I was able to make pitches when I needed to make pitches."
