Tourists Beat Fireflies in 11
|
Asheville Tourists starter Costanzo Salieri was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Columbia Fireflies, 4-3, in 11 innings. The win belonged to Kenny Mitchell in relief. His record improves to 5-2. Charley Weer took the loss for Columbia. No one expected much of this team, but the hot start by Asheville might have some re-evaluating their pre-season predictions. This latest win lifts their record to 17-10.
Asheville used the timely hitting of Hector Novoa to seize the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Tourists on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Good teams find a way to win close games," Novoa said.
