In a high-scoring contest between Columbia and Hickory, designated hitter Liam Brydson was a difference-maker. Brydson distinguished himself in the 9-8 Columbia win. He hit 2 home runs. He scored 4 runs and drove in 4. The third-place Fireflies improved to 18-13.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Columbia trailing 8-6, Brydson hit a changeup from Burt Walker for a 3-run home run, giving the Fireflies the walk-off win.

"If you want to be considered a good team, these are the kind of games you have to win," said Columbia manager Gunner Litherland.
