Fonseca Leads Intimidators to Win
|
The Kannapolis Intimidators defeated the Rome Braves, 4-1. Doing his part was designated hitter Davy Fonseca, who hit 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Payton Frye picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-0. Apolo Terrero was tagged with the loss. Cortéz De La Cruz earned the save for Kannapolis, his 11th.
With the clubs tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth and a runner on 2nd, Kannapolis sent Fonseca to the plate. He got a 1-2 cutter and hit a 2-run home run, to put the Intimidators on top, 3-1.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Fonseca told the Kannapolis Daily. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The Intimidators, at 19-11, sit in first place in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.
