Pérez Helps Rome Cruise to 11-3 Win
Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Rome Braves and West Virginia Power.

The Rome Braves topped the West Virginia Power, 11-3, with youngster Lorenzo Pérez playing a key role. Pérez hit 2 home runs, while adding 6 RBI and scoring twice for the Braves in the win. Harley Kniffen, the winner, improved to 5-1. He held the Power to 1 run on 4 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 1.

Guillermo Balderas had a big 2-run double for the Braves in the top of the third inning. With Rome leading 1-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Chris Unrue, who leads the SAL in wins with 5, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Braves ahead, 3-0.

"It's always fun to score a lot of runs," said Pérez.

Rome leads the South Atlantic League Northwest Division by 2½ games.
