Tourists Pull Out Late-Game Win, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Asheville Tourists and the Greensboro Grasshoppers, pitcher Drew Myers was the difference between victory and defeat. The Asheville right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 1-0 Tourists win. Asheville reliever Samuel Winburn picked up the win to move to 2-0. Gavin Satterfield suffered the loss. Asheville is now 20-15, while Greensboro is 25-10.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Richard Sergent? The 23-year old right fielder Sergent stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Asheville up, 1-0. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 2 doubles and 1 single.
"This game will punch you right in the mouth," said Myers. "My job is to show up and give my team a chance."
