Augusta 6-4 Losers to Fireflies
|
The inspired effort of Augusta shortstop Douglas Richardson was not enough to prevent a loss, 6-4, to the Columbia Fireflies. Richardson was 2-4 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Columbia pitcher Rhys Jackson got the win, upping his record to 4-0. Jon Serrano got the loss. Craig Flint sewed up the save, his 5th.
Columbia won the game in part because of Joel James. The center fielder ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Fireflies ahead, 6-1. For the game, James had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"It doesn't matter if you're 10 games over .500 or 10 games under, it feels good to win," James told the Columbia Times.
Columbia is 18-15 and Augusta, with the loss, 22-11.
