Tourists Knock Off BlueClaws, 3-1
|
The Asheville Tourists used a great performance from Costanzo Salieri, who is tied for 2nd in the SAL in wins with 6, to beat the Lakewood BlueClaws, 3-1, at McCormick Field. Salieri, now 6-0, was the winner. In 7.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Kenny Mitchell recorded the save for Asheville, his 6th of the season.
The Tourists got a big at-bat from center fielder Tristan Toma. For the game, Toma was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Asheville a 3-0 lead.
"Tough loss," said Lakewood manager Ben Schiappa. "But we'll learn from it."
The 5th-place Tourists are 21-16.
