Ace Hoffman was superb against Hickory. The left-hander, who leads the SAL with a 15.7 K/9 rate, had a curveball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Braves victory. The score was 3-1. Earning his 14th save for Rome was Orson Zimmer. The 'W' lifts Rome's record to 22-20.
The Braves got an important contribution from catcher Colby Walsh, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 2-1 fastball into left for a solo home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Braves ahead, 2-0.
In postgame comments, Walsh told the Rome Daily: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"
