Power Win, Now 32-24
|
Patrick Storm could take little solace in pitching a good game. The fact is his Asheville Tourists lost, dropping a 3-1 decision to the West Virginia Power at McCormick Field. Rainer Taylor earned the win to go to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits, with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. West Virginia is in 4th place in the South Atlantic League Northwest Division with a record of 32-24.
James Fitzgerald came through with a big-time hit for West Virginia. The first baseman smacked a 2-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-1. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" West Virginia manager Israel Cantwell said.
