Both teams had their chances, but the Delmarva Shorebirds eventually prevailed.

In a close game at Fluor Field at the West End, the Delmarva Shorebirds edged the Greenville Drive, 5-4. Delmarva third baseman Juan Ponce stood apart with his performance. He went 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs. The win was credited to 24-year old right-handed pitcher Johnny Lawler in relief. His record improves to 4-2. Robert McGuirk took the loss. Darby Beierle earned the save, his 2nd, for the Shorebirds.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Velo Arroyo? The 24-year old first baseman Arroyo stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put Delmarva up, 5-4. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.

"It feels good to get this one," Arroyo told the Delmarva Herald.

The third-place Shorebirds are now 34-25, the Drive 22-37.
