RiverDogs Saddle Tourists with 7-3 Loss
|
The Charleston RiverDogs topped the Asheville Tourists, 7-3, in South Atlantic League action at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. The standout performance belonged to Charleston pitcher and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native Nathan Gitchell. Gitchell went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 5. His record improves to 4-1. Roxo Vigil converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.
The RiverDogs got a big at-bat from shortstop Brennan Stell. For the game, Stell went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 2nd and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Charleston a 4-1 lead.
"We'll put that win in the can," said Stell, "and go after the next one."
Charleston is 5th in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division with a record of 32-28.
