Drive Eke Out 6-5 Win Versus Hickory
|
Simon Van Veen did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Hickory Crawdads from being beaten, 6-5, to the Greenville Drive at L.P. Frans Stadium. Van Veen went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 3 runs. Rafael Jiménez got the win, improving to 2-3. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 1 and walking 2. Paris Weiss picked up the save for Greenville, his 20th of the year.
Greenville used a clutch at-bat from Waco Torkelson to capture the win. The catcher hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Drive ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Greenville manager E.J. Boggan.
Greenville has a record of 34-34, placing them third in the South Atlantic League Carolina Division.
