Fireflies Earn 1-0 Win Against RiverDogs
|
The Columbia Fireflies faced a tough opponent in Charleston pitcher Madison Rutt, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Spirit Communications Park by a final score of 1-0. Rutt went 7 innings and allowed no runs. Columbia reliever Noel Anderson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Omar Domínguez shouldered the loss. The 8th-place Fireflies improved to 33-45.
Columbia won the game in the bottom of the tenth inning. With one out and Omar Domínguez on the mound for Charleston, shortstop Jimmy Coleman hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Fireflies fans to their feet.
"It'd be nice to win by four or five runs," Coleman said, "instead of holding our breath the whole game."
