The Savannah Bananas defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws, 5-1, in South Atlantic League action at Ballpark of Savannah. Savannah pitcher Avery Dionne had a standout performance. Dionne, the winner, moves to 6-4. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. Savannah is now 41-43. Lakewood is 37-47.
Savannah catcher Travis Pogorzelski contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the second. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 58th hit of the season and put the Bananas ahead, 3-0.
Pogorzelski attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
