West Virginia Stymied by Delmarva, 2-1
|
B.J. Abbott was on the winning side of a pitcher's duel at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. In fact, the Delmarva Shorebirds right-hander was instrumental in his team's 2-1 victory over the West Virginia Power. Andy Joseph earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. He upped his record to 7-3. Delmarva, now 55-32, holds down first place in the South Atlantic League Northwest Division.
Had Flash Poe not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Poe hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Shorebirds.
"Whatever it takes to win," said Poe. "That's our attitude."
