Giants Lose at Home, 6-2
|
Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the San Jose Giants home opener. Bodie Friedman started for the home team against Abraham Hill for the Martinez Clippers. The Giants were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 6-2, Martinez. Abraham Hill, though, was impressive. In 8 innings, Hill surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs.
Martinez used the hitting of Celso Santiago to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Clippers on top, 4-0. For the game, Santiago had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
"I thought we played a nice game," Santiago told the Martinez Daily News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
