On Road, Giants Top Blaze, 3-2
|
The San Jose Giants and Bakersfield Blaze played an exciting game.
San Jose beat Bakersfield at Jim Perry Stadium, escaping with a 3-2 win. The win in large part was due to designated hitter Lee Abbott. He was 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Oliver Caldwell, now 1-0, was credited with the win. He allowed 2 runs on 1 hit, while striking out 0 and walking 0. Teddy Merrill got credit for the save for San Jose. It was his 1st of the year.
With San Jose leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Abbott hit a cutter from Travis Messer for a 2-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Giants ahead, 3-0.
"That's baseball," said Bakersfield manager Brian O'Kray. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
Bakersfield now has a record of 7-3.
