The West Virginia Black Bears handed the Yakima Valley Pippins a sound defeat, 12-2, at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Jimmy Rocha was a main contributor to the win. He was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for West Virginia. West Virginia sits at 4-3.

A critical at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning when the Black Bears sent 21-year-old shortstop Dakota Haviland to the plate with runners on 1st and 2nd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a 3-run home run, to put West Virginia on top, 11-1.

"We didn't put up much resistance," said losing manager Hugo Brito.
