Win Goes to Rapids in Tight Contest
|
The Niagara Falls Rapids dumped the Jamestown Jammers, 7-5, in large part due to designated hitter James Wetherell. On the day, Wetherell was 2 for 5 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Rapids. Dougie Spence picked up the win in relief. Hunter James took the loss for Jamestown. Penn Futterman was credited with the save for Niagara Falls, his 5th of the season.
Wetherell had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a first pitch fastball from Hunter James, he banged a 3-run home run to right, giving the Rapids a 7-5 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Wetherell.
"I hate to be the fly in the ointment," said Wetherell, "but we could've played better."
The Rapids sit in first place in the New York-Penn League North Division with a record of 12-5.
