Tigers Deal Auburn 4-3 Defeat
|
The Connecticut Tigers picked up a win at Senator Thomas J. Dodd Memorial Stadium, knocking off the Auburn Doubledays, 4-3. Starting pitcher Scott Saarela was a big reason why. Saarela yielded 3 runs over 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 2-0. Erwan Cardinal recorded the save, his 6th.
James Guariglia's at-bat in the bottom of the fifth inning was a big one for Connecticut. Coming to bat with one out, runners on 1st and 2nd and Connecticut trailing 3-2, the designated hitter hit a run-scoring single.
"Bottom line," said Auburn skipper Carlos Renteria, "we didn't play well enough to win."
The 4th-place Tigers now have a record of 11-8.
