Lowell Spinners starter William Gerken turned in an exceptional performance against the West Virginia Black Bears at Edward A. LeLacheur Park, resulting in a Lowell win, 2-0. Gerken yielded no runs over 6.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 1-3. Earning his 3rd save of the year was Aiden Bennetch.

Cayden Dixon had a big solo home run for the Spinners in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Lowell leading 1-0 and the bases empty, he sized up a curveball from 23-year old left-handed pitcher James Duran and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Spinners on top, 2-0.

Gerken pitched well, despite being a bit under the weather. "To be honest, I was sick before the game," he said. "Just a stomach bug."

The Spinners, now 8-18, know that wins in July count the same as wins in September.
