Ballpark of Victoria was the site for Northwest League action featuring the Yakima Valley Pippins and Olympia Spartans.

The timely hitting of Endy Taveras helped the Olympia Spartans down the Yakima Valley Pippins, 9-4. Taveras was 2-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 and driving in 3 for the Spartans. Calvin Pizana snagged the win in relief. In 2.1 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits. He's now 1-0 on the season.

With Olympia leading 2-1 in the bottom of the first, Taveras hit a curveball from Calvin Mays for a 3-run home run. It was his 1st home run of the season and put the Spartans ahead, 5-1.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Taveras told the Olympia Observer.

Olympia goes to 8-5.
