Black Bears Top Marauders, 5-1
|
The West Virginia Black Bears knocked off the Kennewick Marauders, 5-1, at Dutchess Stadium. James Shafer produced 3 singles and 1 double, while scoring 1 run and driving in 1. The winner in relief was Chris Evans. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. The Black Bears now have a mark of 9-6.
The Black Bears got a big at-bat from designated hitter Darren Minor. For the game, Minor went 1-3 with a double and a walk, while adding 4 RBI. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 2nd double of the season gave West Virginia a 4-1 lead.
"It was just a matter of executing," said West Virginia manager Scott Meissner.
