Buford Slugs ValleyCats to 9-8 Win
|
Ricky Buford impressed in the 9-8 Tri-City win over Oil City. Buford, who is tied for 5th in the NYP in bases on balls with 17, belted 2 home runs. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. The winner was Carlton Martin in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Timothy Deweerd took the loss. Isaac Suchinda closed out the game, earning his 5th save.
Rafi Vasconez had a big 2-run double for the ValleyCats in the top of the fourth inning. With Tri-City leading 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a slider from 19-year old left-handed pitcher Timothy Deweerd and swatted a double to center. It was his 4th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the ValleyCats ahead, 4-0.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Buford, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
The triumph puts Tri-City at 19-15 for the season.
