AquaSox Handled by Eugene, 9-8
|
The Everett AquaSox and Eugene Emeralds provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Everett AquaSox got a superb performance from second baseman José Candelas. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Eugene. The Emeralds won the game, 9-8. Candelas was 3-4 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Eugene reliever Andy Weiss picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Shane Miser shouldered the loss. Joseph Barnes closed it out for his 3rd save.
Had Alphonso Meraz not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Meraz hit a 2-run single. That made the score 9-8, in favor of the Emeralds.
"What a game," said Meraz. "We needed every last run."
The loss makes Everett 11-7.
