Black Bears Dispose of Ironbirds, 10-3
|
The West Virginia Black Bears pinned a convincing loss on the Aberdeen Ironbirds, 10-3, at Ripken Stadium. James Churchill was a main factor in the win. He went 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for West Virginia. Hunter Geiger went 6 innings, allowing 2 runs on 11 hits. The left-hander struck out 2 and walked 0. With the win, he ups his record to 5-1 this season. The last-place Ironbirds have lost 4 straight games.
West Virginia used the hitting of Nathan Gonzales to pick up the win. The second baseman clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Black Bears on top, 3-0. For the game, Gonzales had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"We're trying to go out there and win games," Churchill told the West Virginia Gazette, "and we played pretty well tonight."
