West Virginia Triumphs with Late Surge
|
West Virginia Black Bears starter Noah Kuziel found his groove in his team's 6-3 win over the Connecticut Tigers. West Virginia reliever Ted Mincey picked up the win, upping his record to 4-0. Roberto Lares was saddled with the loss. Picking up the save was Rudolf Dunn, his 8th.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman Woody Bush came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Connecticut pitcher Roberto Lares, he hit a 0-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting West Virginia on top, 4-3.
"I'm happy we won," said Kuziel. "That's first and foremost. My goal is for the team to win the day I pitch, however it's done."
With the win, West Virginia goes to 24-15, while the Tigers fall to 20-19.
