Rapids Stick Lake Monsters with 6-4 Loss
|
Vermont center fielder Willoughby Boyd was sensational. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. But it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Niagara Falls beat the Lake Monsters, 6-4. Logan Miller got the win, improving to 5-3. He worked 8.1 innings, giving up 1 run on 9 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 3. Thurston Thompson earned the save for Niagara Falls, his 2nd.
Isidro Arcos had a big 2-run double for the Rapids in the top of the eighth inning. With Niagara Falls leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he got a cutter from 21-year old right-handed pitcher Evan Dorn and swatted a double to left. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Rapids ahead, 5-0.
"We're in a little funk right now and we've just got to get ourselves out of it," said Vermont manager Charles Chaney.
The last-place Rapids go to 16-27.
