Staten Island Stymied by Youngstown, 2-0
|
Eastwood Field was the site of a true pitchers' duel.
Youngstown took on Staten Island in a contest which featured a pitchers' duel. Caleb Parker, in particular, was fantastic. The Youngstown right-hander helped his team snag the win, 2-0. Parker yielded no runs over 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-6. Wes Reis picked up his 6th save of the season.
The Gremlins got a big at-bat from second baseman Grant McConley. For the game, McConley was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Youngstown a 2-0 lead.
"Hustle and hard work is a big part of our success," said McConley. "Those qualities define our team."
Youngstown is now 16-27. Staten Island is 17-26.
