Hughes, Spikes Too Much for Hawks
|
The State College Spikes bested the Boise Hawks, 12-5, at Memorial Stadium. Carmen Hughes was one of the standouts. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. The winning pitcher was Charles McNatt. He tossed 85 pitches over 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 8 hits. State College occupies first place in the New York-Penn League South Division at 18-4.
State College used the bat of Raymond Stanick to get the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Spikes ahead, 4-1. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it did its damage.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Hughes. "Just do my job."
