Red Wings Score 11-3 Win Over Pizza Rats
|
The Hamilton Red Wings soundly defeated the Staten Island Pizza Rats, 11-3, at Red Wings Ballpark. Chris Dixon let his bat do the talking. He was 3-4 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for Hamilton. Raymond Piper, the winner, improved to 2-3. He held the Pizza Rats to 3 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 7 and walking 1. Wink Dore earned the save for Hamilton, his 2nd.
Rhys Walker had a big grand slam home run for the Red Wings in the bottom of the first inning. With Hamilton trailing 3-2 and the bases loaded, he got a changeup from Madden Sweigart and swatted a home run to left. It was his 4th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Red Wings ahead, 6-3.
"When you don't put the pitches where they're supposed to be, they hit you hard," said Staten Island skipper Max Collison.
Today's win puts Hamilton at 27-21, while Staten Island falls to 22-26.
